Understand the 34 Menopause Symptoms that Could be Affecting You!

After the age of 40, many women start to see, feel and sense changes to their body and minds. These so called symptoms may be directly related to menopause and can come on gradually or in some cases, overnight. It may be difficult to determine if you are entering the perimenopause phase of your life because there are in excess of 34 menopause symptoms.

Any menopause symptom can last from a few months to as long as several years. Some symptoms are mild and not even noticeable while other can be severe and have a negative impact on ones quality of life. In extreme cases, women have been using hormone replacement therapy to help with symptoms. Up until 2002, this was common practice. However, a clinical study that came out in July, 2002, highlighted the potential health risks for women on hormone therapy. Today, if women do decide on this form of treatment, it is recommended that the smallest dose over the shortest period of time be used.

The most common menopause symptoms to be aware of include these psychological signs:

1. Mood swings and anxiety

2. Irritability

3. Memory loss and concentration issues

4. Depression

Physical menopause symptoms can vary from woman to woman but here are some of the most common one documented. Hot flashes occur when there are fluctuations in hormone levels. These can cause both day and night sweats and can often be severe. Insomnia is also a common symptom which induces fatigue and some of the emotional side effects of menopause. Insomnia may also be the result of hot flashes as well as joint and muscle pain.

Many women suffer from vaginal dryness which can be quite painful. Some also notice a decrease in their sex drive. Loss of bladder control along with urinary tract infections are also common symptoms of menopause. Other physical symptoms include bloating, breast tenderness, gum and tooth decay, bad breath, ringing in the ears, changes in skin and hair (including thinning), increase in facial hair, weight gain, lower metabolism, possible allergy increase, headaches and changes in periods.

Some women breeze through menopause like nothing even happened. Others suffer through and have a terrible time. If you have severe symptoms, so tips that may help include exercising daily, getting lots of rest, eating more fruits and vegetables, reducing alcohol and caffeine intake and quitting smoking. Be sure to speak with your doctor to get all the right advice to living well during this period in your life.
